President’s Speech

A very warm welcome to everyone. On 5th May 2020, we celebrate the 202nd anniversary of the birth of Karl Heinrich Marx, one of the greatest philosophers of all time. Also, on this special day, The International Association of Marx and Engels Humanities Studies (MEIA) has been formed. The establishment of the association has received many supports from the local authorities and friends from all backgrounds. For this, I would like to represent the association and show our greatest gratitude by thanking all of you for your unconditional support.

The emergence of capitalism in the UK triggered the start of the industrial revolution. Manchester was then the central of industrial development. The advancement of technology and its effects were studied and researched thoroughly by Marx and Engels, who then wrote great books such as Das Kapital and established Marxism.

Marx and Engels had both lived in Greater Manchester, leaving behind places of historical significance. One such places can be found in Salford, which is where Marx and Engels met up for discussions. The young Engels was sent to the Ermen and Engels Victoria Mill in Salford by his father to work in his family business. The MEIA aims to utilise the rich history of industrial revolution to build a platform for all to learn and discuss about Marxism, promote international social development, review the important of industrial revolution to the advancement of current society, promote the friendship and cooperation for economic prosperities among the Twin-Sister Cities in the Greater Manchester and the Chinese counterparts.

We sincerely hope to welcome all of you to join us in our future events, to promote multi-culturalism for the community of common destiny for all mankind.
