1.General Notes

i) The MEIA is an independent, non-political and non-religious community group formed by individuals from the UK and China.

ii) The Chinese pronunciation of the MEIA is “ma ke si en ge si guo ji ren wen jiao liu xue hui”.

iv) Our mission

• Investigate Marx's Theory in order to promote international humanistic studies and exchanges.
• Discuss the impact of the Industrial Revolution on our society and the implications for future developments.
• Promote Sino-British economic and trade cooperation, cultural exchanges and tourism development.
• Promote exchanges and economic prosperity between Greater Manchester and Chinese sister city.
• Promote Sino-British exchanges and multiculturalism in order to achieve unity
• Promote communication between members and protect their benefits.

2. Activities

i) Build an online and offline platform to allow academic discussions amongst members.

ii) Host seminars: There will be 3 seminars every year aiming to study and investigate the academic value and implications of Marxism on the current society.

The three seminars will be held at:
a. UK
b. China
c. One other country

iii) Publish magazines and newsletter regularly.

iv) Organise social activities to encourage discussions and communications between members of the association.

3.Members:

i) All individuals must abide by the rules and regulation and are willing to participate in activities organised by the association. One has to voluntarily apply, recommended by at least 2 members of the management board,and approved by the executive director to be an official member of the association.

ii) Types of member: Individual and institutional members

iii) Daily affairs of the members will be managed by the membership department

iv) Official members can enjoy the benefits below:
• Rights to be recommended and participate in managerial roles
• Enjoy promotions for the seminar and activities hosted by the association
• Priorities to publish articles in the association newsletters and magazines
• Freedom to withdraw from the association
• Rights to enquire and provide suggestions to the work of the association

v) Responsibilities of the official Members:
· Abide by the rules and regulations of the association;
· Payments of membership fees;
· Actively participate in the association activities;
· Actively provide suggestions on the work of the association;
· Inform the association with the updated personal contact information promptly if there are any changes.

vi) Any activities hosted with the name of the association must be approved by the management committee.

vii) Members found to breach the rules and regulation will be advised to withdraw or have their membership voided. The decision will be proposed by 3 executive directors, and it has to be agreed by at least ⅔ of the members on the management committee.

viii) The association accepts both correspondence members and honorary members:
· Correspondence members: a regular member of the association who is unable to actively participate in the events/activities due to particular reasons;
· Honorary members: Well-known individuals from various backgrounds can join as honorary members upon invitation of the Executive Director.

4) Management Board of the Association:

i) The association is led by: a President, an Executive Vice President, multiple Vice Presidents.

ii) The association is set up with a Head of Secretary, Executive Vice Head of Secretary, two Vice Head of Secretary.

iii) The management committee consists of President, Executive Vice President, Vice President, Head of Secretary and Vice Head of Secretary. The management committee will be responsible for the management of the association, project strategization and hosting of daily jobs.

iv) The association will arrange a few well-known academics as executive directors.

v) The management committee appoints and approves well-known individuals and official members to form a group of directors.

vi) Depending on the needs, the association is allowed to hire a Honorary President that must be a previous President of the association, a few other Honorary Presidents and a few consultants.

vii) The association holds an annual conference (concurrently held with seminars or other events), can also be held using other communication tools such as video conference.

The purpose of the annual conference:
· Propose and discuss the work plan and activities of the following year;
· The members from the management committee submits the annual work report and answers queries;
· Management Committee publishes the annual financial report

viii) The management committee is the executive body of the association. It is responsible for:
• Formulating the work plan of the association
• Instruct each department to organise activities
• Audit the financial reports
• Reply to the queries and suggestions from the members of the association
• Maintain and update the list of members and their contact details

ix) The association has set up the following departments to carry out jobs:
• Secretary Department
• Membership Department
• Liaison Department
• Accounting and Financial Department
• Academic Department
• Supervising Committee

x) The numbers of departments can be adjusted depending on the needs of the association.

5) Account and Finance Management:

· The funds of the association come from membership fees, individuals and other associations sponsors, or relevant organisations through applications. The association encourages members to seek sponsorship for the association.
· The association accepts donations, gifts and sponsorships from people who aim to promote the development of the association.
· Different forms of sponsors from people from various backgrounds can be accepted. However, funds should not be acquired through a large amount of permanent trading activities.
· The head of the financial department is responsible for managing the funds of the association, opening and managing the association’s bank accounts. He or she is also responsible to inform the board of executive directors of the financial situation regularly.
· If the association is terminated, all funds remaining in the account will be donated to the Christie Cancer Research Foundation after paying all the expenses.

5) The effectiveness and rights of interpretation of the rules and regulations:

i) The management committee reserves the rights of interpretation to the rules and regulation of the association.

ii) The rules and regulations subject to the jurisdiction of the UK law.
